I hear Mercedes Is Making Light Trucks. What is that about?
Wednesday, August 6th, 2008Nope, Mercedes is not about to release a mess of Mercedes Pickup Trucks.
The SAE (Society of Automtive Engineers) Light truck classification is for trucks or truck-based vehicles with a payload capacity of less than 4,000 pounds.
Mercedes chose to acknowledge Federal Regulations concerning Light Trucks instead of calling them what they really are – SUV’s (Sports Utility Vehicles)
A sport utility vehicle, or SUV, is a generic specification for a passenger vehicle which combines the towing capacity of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a minivan or station wagon together with on or off road ability. SUVs are considered light trucks and often share the same platforms of pickups.
